There is this article written in the Chinese paper today (wan bao) on my grand aunt! the reporter went to interview her as a follow up on a post on omy.sg by some netizen.. and he manage to come up with half a page of over sensationalize news.. which amazes me..In the article there were detailed information on names of her children and all.. and there was this part about how she earn only 8 dollars a day from collecting card board and still have t0 split the $ with her brother to support him.. and it goes on about how sad her life but she is very strong willed and can support herself..
It amazes me because..
firstly - she is deaf and dumb.. even after so many years of living w her i cant understand her totally.. a reporter whom met her for the first time can get so much out of her.. truly amazing..
Next- the fact about how she earns so little and needs to support herself blah blah.. but collecting cardboard is a means to past time and her children gives her ample allowance.. she aint that miserable!
and..she does not support her brother! in fact my aunt do give him allowance and he collects cardboard as well.. and he is doing even better than her!
This whole article paints such a grim picture of my family.. like we do not take care of our elders and all.. which is not true at all.. these journalist are writing at the expense of one's reputation and the truth!
what happened to principles of Journalism like - truthfulness, accountability to public, objectivity??
